Homemade Flea Remedies

Herbal Flea Spray

One of the easiest thing you can do is create your own spray. This will help you get rid of the fleas around your house. Just mix the following ingredients in a large spray bottle: 2 liters of water, 4 liters of vinegar, 250ml of witch hazel and 500ml of lemon juice. Before you spray the suspected areas, make sure you vacuum them and wash the cushions and beddings. You can then start spraying the suspected items or areas.

Dish Soap

You can use water and dish soap as the main ingredients for creating a flea trap. Just fill a bowl with the mixture of soap and water and place it around the house where flea activity is more frequent. The mixture will trap the fleas because of the high viscosity of the solution. Do this task during at night since fleas are active during that time of the day.

Baking Soda

Another way to naturally get rid of the fleas is using baking soda while you vacuum the place. Vacuuming is an effective solution when it comes to removing the fleas from the fibers of your furniture and carpets. The effectivity of this task is increased if you add baking soda. Just put baking soda on the surfaces you’re going to vacuum. Rub it hard onto the fabric, then vacuum thoroughly.

Lemon Spray

Lemon spray is an effective solution to treating wasp stings, and it’s also a great remedy for fleas. You use the lemon to make a citrus spray. Just slice the lemon and add a little bit of water. Bring the mixture to a boil. Sit it overnight and pour into a spray bottle. You can use the solution the next day. Spray it on the infected areas, if your ped bedding, sofas and chair.

Salt

Salt works almost the way same way as how baking soda works. It acts as a dehydration agent which helps you get rid of the adult fleas. Take some salt, sprinkle them on the infected areas. Leave it as it is for 2 days and then vacuum the areas. This will effectively kill off the fleas.

Flea Repelling Plants

Fleas come back, and you have to do the remedies all over again. But there are repelling plants that will help you prevent them from coming back. These plants are spearmint, lavender, chrysanthemums, and penny royal. These plants contain oils and scents that fleas don’t like.
